Xcel Energy is looking to transform a vacant site in Northeast Minneapolis into a new operations center.
Located at 3356 Marshall Street NE, the site would be redeveloped into a three-story, 85,000 square foot office building that would be surrounded by 295 parking spaces.
The new building is planned as a replacement for the Chestnut Service Center that will soon be redeveloped at 1518 Chestnut Avenue on the SW edge of Downtown Minneapolis. The new building would include space for a relocated electrical distribution control center along with offices and a training/auditorium space.
Designed by RSP Architects, the new operations center would be clad in fiber cement board and precast concrete. Access to the parking area would be provided via two curb cuts located along Marshall Street Northeast and St. Anthony Parkway.
As a part of the project, Xcel Energy plans to include a 30-foot-deep landscaped yard and construct a new sidewalk along Marshall Street NE and also protect trees along the west and back side of the property.
The area in which the operations center would be constructed is already home to a number of industrial sites. Xcel Energy owns multiple properties in the surrounding area including a site to the south that is home to the Xcel Riverside Powerplant and another site to the east that is home to the Xcel Field Ballpark.
Plans for Xcel Energyβs Marshall Operations Center will go before the Minneapolis Planning Commission Committee of the Whole for feedback this Thursday, December 10th, at 4:30pm.
