A new retail shop where beauty, health, and the open mind is honored is now open in the Linden Hills neighborhood.
didi DADA opened in early December near the corner of W 44th Street and Upton Avenue S on the ground floor of 44 Commons. didi DADA will be an ever-evolving shop where things change often and with purpose. Within the shop you’ll find rotating fine artists, one-of-a-kind clothing pieces, home goods, publications, wellness tinctures, and a conscious bodega.
didi DADA is currently the first shop in the Midwest to offer several indigenous and prestigious artists work such as Virgil Ortiz, Rhiannon Griego, Alexandra Kohl Clothing, Bonnie Young, Lindsey Thornburg, Josh Tofoya, and District Vision.
ALASKAN ROOTS
Sister duo Shaina and Ali established didi DADA after working in the arts and sales world in NYC and internationally for over a decade. The two eventually moved to Alaska to trace their family’s legacy of adventure and freedom. There they spent years in a bustling village where they opened their first “log and mortar” store of didi DAWA in Talkeetna, AK.
Since then, the two have returned to their hometown of Minneapolis to begin a new adventure and with them they’ve brought their exciting and unique retail concept. The duo selected Linden Hills for their Minneapolis location as it has a small town feel of community but is in an urban setting.
If you’re wondering where the name for the new shop came from, let us fill you in. “didi” is the world for “older sister” in Nepali and “dada mdogo” means “little sister” in Swahili. The two decided on the name after spending time in both Nepal and Africa where being called “sister” became more expansive and touched the way the two acknowledge their connection to one another, how they work, and the purpose behind it all.
Didi DADA is located at 4353 Upton Avenue S in the Linden Hills neighborhood.
