We battled the elements... ventured through the mounds of snow... over the icy waters of Lake Superior... and to the Park Point Marina Inn in order to bring you a much deserved update on the project. We can all dream of summer... right?
It might be hard to currently think of spending a blissful weekend on the beautiful warm shores of Lake Superior on Duluth's iconic Park Point... when there are still three feet of snow left covering every vacant area of ground space. Well, let's try to picture that serene image together and imagine how much nicer it will be this summer when Park Point Marina Inn officially opens for business... and you and the lake can finally become one... well... almost.
This is the hotel project that has been in development for a few years now and finally is coming to fruition this summer. If you're not quite remembering the project, it's probably due to the fact that it was proposed around the same time as the larger 9 nine story hotel that was proposed to be built kiddy corner to the site. That project fizzled out after opposition from the surrounding neighborhood, while this project pushed further into its planning and design process. Park Point Marina Inn was designed off of the architectural nodes of the former Duluth Rowing Club building that stood on the site many years ago and is unique not only for it's small size, but also for the picturesque views that guests will have from their rooms balconies.
The hotel is meant to be an intimate experience connecting it's guests with not only the past, but also the current. Each of the 68 hotel rooms have a balcony that gives unparalleled views of the shores of Lake Superior and the surrounding harbor area. In some areas the hotel is no more than 50 feet from the shoreline, thus allowing it's guest to get close and personal with the areas wildlife populations and the nearby marina life. The hotel itself will feature an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, along with banquet spaces. There also will be lounge with a bar, 24 hour fitness center, 24 hour business center and even self service laundry! And if you're a guest... those freebies included with your stay will include a hot/cold buffet breakfast each morning, WIFI, and of course parking. The only negative... Fido and LuLu will have to stay home for the weekend as not pets are allowed.
Rooms will come in four formats. All will be deluxe rooms, however there will also be suites that include a jacuzzi or fireplace. The rooms will feature hydromassage shower heads, pillow top beds with premium bedding, refrigerators and microwaves, and a 39 inch LED TV. As most know with hotels in Duluth, during the summer months they can be quite expensive. Look for rates during the Duluth's nicest months to start around $130 and go all the way up to the $300 mark per night. During the cooler months room rates can be expected to start around $80 and go up to around $200 per night. Guests can book one of the following room types for their stay.
