One of the largest fitness chains in the United States is looking to open their first Twin Ports location in the heart of Duluthβs retail corridor.
Planet Fitness plans to construct a brand new 22,300 square foot facility with 189 parking spaces at 2327 Mountain Shadow Drive. An existing building on site that currently is home to County Lanes North would be demolished to make way for the new building. It is unclear at the moment if Country Lanes North plans to relocate to a new location within the area.
Planet Fitness is known for their wide offering of affordable memberships and for their 24-hour-a-day βJudgement Free Zoneβ that caters to both pro and casual gym users. The Duluth facility would include their prototypical design which features a vast variety of fitness equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, indoor cycling, step mills, rowers, and more. The new facility would also feature specialty equipment in designated rooms along with member access to small course classes and trainers. And yes, of course, there would also be access to locker rooms on site.
Planet Fitness is one of the leading franchisors and operators of fitness centers in the US. The company currently has over 2,000 locations spread across the US, Canada, Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, and Australia. The fitness chain was founded in 1992 in Hampton, New Hampshire by brothers Michael and Marc Grondahl. The two have since departed from the company which is now owned by Chris Rondeau.
Planet Fitness hopes to begin construction on their new location this fall with an opening anticipated in mid-2023.
