NEW CLINIC PLANNED FOR STEVENS SQUARE NEIGHBORHOOD

A new community health and education center is planned for a site near the intersection of Franklin and Nicollet Avenue.

Family Tree Clinic is planning to construct a new, two-story, 17,000 square foot clinic located at 1925 Nicollet Avenue in the Stevens Square neighborhood. The project would include seven off-street parking spaces that would be located within a shared parking lot with Plymouth Congregational Church.

Family Tree Clinic is a nonprofit community clinic that was founded in 1971. Their mission is to cultivate a healthy community through comprehensive sexual health care and education. The clinic has a vision to eliminate health disparities through innovative, personalized sexual health care and education for diverse needs. Today Family Tree Clinic is located at 1619 Dayton Avenue in St. Paul.

In order to construct the new clinic an existing 12,500 square foot building would be demolished. The new building, which was designed by Perkins & Will, would feature 8,600 square feet of space on the ground floor that would be home to a lobby and office space. The second floor would be roughly the same size and would include the clinic wait area, exam rooms, offices and flex space. The building would be clad in a mix of stucco and brick.

Community improvements to the site would include shared bike racks and a public bench. In addition, work is currently underway to commission community artists to design multiple murals for several locations along the building’s faΓ§ade.

The new clinic is planned in response to the growing demand for Family Tree Clinic’s services. In order to make the new clinic possible Family Tree has launched a $7 million capital campaign called the β€œPower to Build: The Campaign for Family Tree Clinic.”

ο»ΏPlans for Family Tree Clinic were approved by the Minneapolis Planning Commission at their March 13th meeting. Work on Family Tree Clinic is anticipated to be complete in spring 2021.
