B.A.D. (Billy After Dark) is officially ready for its premiere.
From the man behind Billy Sushi, comes B.A.D. (Billy After Dark), a new underground cocktail bar experience like none other in the North Loop, or the State of Minnesota for that matter. And to make it clear, this isn’t a speakeasy. It’s a true experience.
Billy Tserenbat has been working on the concept of B.A.D. for quite some time now, vowing to create something like no other establishment that Minnesota has experienced to date. After nearly a year of construction, he’s done it.
B.A.D. is truly an experience from the moment you walk through the door. The entry for the space is located behind the building through a secure alleyway that links up with the neighboring Second & Second promenade and soon with the under-construction Commutator Foundry project’s back promenade.
Where will you find B.A.D.? Just look for a window above a door with a neon sign that includes an astronaut riding a dinosaur. Yes, you read that correctly.
Once inside, you’ll wind down a staircase filled with neon signage with witty and quirky sayings such as “BAD DECISIONS make better stories.” When you reach the bottom of the staircase, you’ll officially enter the lounge/bar area. The space is intentionally dark, but at the same time filled with the perfect amount of light provided via modern lamps on each table, wall art, and a ceiling detail of shimmering stars that even includes shooting stars. Yes, if you’re reminiscing about a 90’s limo ceiling you’ve nailed it. Surrounding the entire space are numerous faux trees that are lit from below, providing a tasteful yet dramatic backdrop. An extremely well curated playlist of 90’s hip hop music fills the space with a chill, yet elevated ambience.
The bar is located directly to your right when entering, however, it’s not your standard bar as you can’t order from it as beverages will be brought directly to your table. The bar itself also sits at table height which is a unique feature meant to engage and connect the Bartenders and Guests instead of separating them. Behind the bar area is a digital wall clad in custom tile that features a video screen that will rotate images throughout the year. The bar wall tile, which was sourced by Billy after he walked past it one day on the street, is one of the many unique design details of the space, which was designed by Billy himself.
When at B.A.D., make sure you use the restroom as they’re an experience all on their own. They’re hidden behind a door that leads to a neon filled hallway with multiple Instagrammable moments, including two large neon angle wings and multiple digital moments.
Finally, B.A.D. features one additional space that the public won’t necessarily notice. That space is behind the bar, past the whiskey wall (which includes not only rare and fine bottles, but also a collection of whiskey that is found in only two other places in the world), up some stairs, and the rest is history. Think of a space for celebrities, both local and national, or special events and gatherings. The space is tastefully designed, filled with tons of digital screens, and even booths that vibrate to the music. But that’s about all the details that we can give you on the space as of now. Billy will need to fill you in on the rest. *winkwink
So, we’ve filled you in on about every corner of space within B.A.D., so what can you expect from the menu? A lot to be honest. First off, don’t expect anything from the menu upstairs. The menu at B.A.D. will be unique and will roll out in three phases, starting with elevated and unique cocktails, then moving to dessert, and eventually food. While limited details are available on the food menu, we do know that steaks will be involved.
B.A.D. officially opens for business tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12th. The establishment will be invite-only for roughly the first month and then will open to the public through a very unique online reservation experience.
B.A.D. will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:59pm to 11:59am. Why not later? That’s because according to Billy, “Nothing good ever happens after Midnight.”
B.A.D. is located at 116 1st Avenue N in the North Loop neighborhood
