Trader Joe's coming to Downtown Minneapolis

Last Spring news broke that Trader Joe's officlally had begun their search for a Downtown Minneapolis location. Today Mill City Times posted news that the chain has successfully found a place to call home with the city of Minneapolis. Best part of all, it's downtown.

Reports from Mill City Times state that Trader Joe's will be opening in Thresher Square on the 700 block of South Third Street. While the Thresher Square building itself has been here for close to century Sherman Associates has been busily working for the last year on planning a renovation and addition to the building to the tune of $100 million. Enter the new home of Trader Joe's.

Sherman Associates had hinted in June that a grocer was in the works for some of the 30,000 square feet of retail space for the project. The Thresher Building itself is slated to become a full service hotel after the renovation, a significant change as it currently is office space. There also will be another building constructed east of the site that will house additional retail space (most likely Trader Joe's) along with 175 apartments. The project will feature two levels of underground parking too (allowing you to really stock up at Trader Joe's).

While Trader Joe's company officials have yet to confirm what would be the eighth Trader Joe's location for the Metro, Mill City Times is quite certain of the news as they have been working with two independent sources with direct knowledge of the project.
