BILLY SUSHI TO OPEN IN MAY IN the NORTH LOOP

A new place for sushi will be opening in the North Loop in early May.

Billy Sushi will be the name of the new restaurant that will be located at 116 N 1st Avenue. The name comes from the man behind the project, Chef Billy Tserenbat.

Billy isn’t a stranger when it comes to sushi, he actually could be considered to be a deity of the sushi world. He’s not only the Founder of Sushi Fix (the area’s first sushi food truck which eventually opened in restaurant in Wayzata), but he’s also the one behind Bibuta in Minneapolis and Baja Haus in Wayzata. If you haven’t heard of the last two, Bibuta is known for their burrito-like “maki sushi, poke bowls and sushi salads” while Baja Haus is known for their creative Cali-Mex inspired menu.

The space that Sushi Fix will occupy is within a building that was constructed in the 1880’s near the intersection of N 1st Avenue and N Second Street . Most recently the space was home to Sweet Chow which opened in early 2018.

Renovations are currently underway on the space and when complete the restaurant will have over 100 seats and will include a full bar and a sushi bar. The sushi bar will occupy space that was previously the main bar while the adjacent space that was home to Sweet Chow’s ice cream shop will become a whiskey-sake-shochu bar.

Billy Sushi will be located next to West Elm at 116 N 1st Avenue in the North Loop.
