Renovation Planned for Ids Center's Crystal Court

Renovation Planned for Ids Center's Crystal Court image

IDS Center’s iconic Crystal Court is about to get a makeover.

Accesso, the owner of the 57-story tower, is planning a $5 million renovation of the public court at the base of the building. The 23,000 square foot space was designed by starchitect Philip Johnson and was constructed in 1972 and was last renovated in 1998.

Gone will be the 68 white benches that currently dot the space along with the water feature that cascades 105 feet down from the ceiling. New to the space will be modular boulder seating, a granite reflecting pool with an infinity edge and new trees. Those new trees will eventually grow to 24 feet tall, much taller than the Black Olive trees that are currently within the court.

Perkins and Will is responsible for the design of the Crystal Court renovation while New History has served as a consultant. The General Contractor working on the project will be Greiner Construction.

Work on Crystal Court is anticipated to begin in December and be complete by July 2021.
