Mixed-use project planned for Elliot Park

Another development proposal including housing and a small amount of retail space has been presented to the city for the Elliot Park neighborhood in Downtown Minneapolis.

Weinder Apartment Homes and Hunt Development plan to construct a new six story mixed-use project including 243 residential units and 2,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor at the corner of 14th Street East and Park Avenue. The project also would include underground parking.

Minneapolis based BKV Group is responsible for the design of 1400 Park (which is a working title). It's a behemoth of a development to be honest that really would make an impact on the overall area and hopefully kickstart additional neighboring development.

The project was presented last night to the Planning Commission Committee of the Whole regarding the size, height, materials, and interaction with the surrounding neighborhood. Depending on what feedback is given the project could be approved in late winter with construction begin this Summer.

Located down Park Avenue towards Interstate 94, 1400 Park place will be constructed on the site of the former Minnesota Aids Project office. It's a 1.79 acre site that was purchased last year by Weinder Apartment Homes and Hunt Development for $4.5 million.

Elliot Park Gets A Turn

Development finally seems to be spreading from the neighboring Downtown East area with the announcement of this project. That area has seen developers snatching up sites ever since the new $1.1 billion U.S. Bank Stadium was announced while areas not directly around the stadium, such as Elliot Park, have been sitting relatively quite until recently.

Within the last decade the most notable projects constructed in the area have been Skyscape Condos at 929 Portland Avenue and Grant Park, the massive 300+ condominum project that opened in the early 2000s.
