CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: THRIVENT FINANCIAL HQ

Thrivent Financial’s new headquarters is nearing completion.

The eight-story building occupies half an entire city block located at 600 Portland Avenue S. The building itself covers 264,139 square feet of space and is anticipated to be complete later this year. Thrivent will move over 1,200 employees from their current headquarters a block away to the new building.

In addition to office space, the building will feature a credit union along with a coffee shop that is open to the public. The coffee shop/cafe will be located on the ground floor of the building near the intersection of Portland Avenue S and 6th Street S. Thrivent employees will also have private access to a chapel/meditation room, fitness center and locker rooms.

Two levels of underground parking with space for 164 vehicles is included within the building. A future project next door will eventually expand the total amount of underground parking to 350 spaces.

Thrivent’s new headquarters will be connected to the Minneapolis Skyway System via a connection on the second floor. The skyway will connect to Sora, a new mixed-use project that is nearly complete next door, run through Thrivent’s building and then eventually will connect to a 10-story mixed-use project that is planned for the remaining half of the Thrivent block (more on that project soon). Eventually the skyway is also planned to connect to HCMC.

HGA Architects is responsible for the design of the new headquarters and McGough Construction is the General Contractor constructing the project. The exterior of the building is clad in vision and spandrel glass, metal paneling and two different types of stone. One of the defining design features of the structure is an eight-story feature staircase that is located near the corner of the building at the intersection of Portland and 6th.

Thrivent Financial is anticipated to move into their new headquarters in later this year.
