The center formerly known as “Calhoun Square” is officially getting a new name and some pretty major upgrades.

Moving forward, the 172,000 square foot retail center will be known as “Seven Points Uptown.” The name is in reference to the seven points on the crown-like structure that sits atop the building at the corner of W Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue.

Chicago-based Northpond Partners purchased the property last year with plans to transform it in the coming years. The company shared new details earlier this week on what the future of the center could look like.

Future Plans

Northpond intends to reposition Seven Points Uptown, keeping retail on the ground floor while potentially converting the upper floors into office space and/or apartments.

The company plans to begin work immediately on transforming space on the ground floor of the building at the corner of Lake and Hennepin. That space, which is currently a single retail space, will be redesignated as an entrance. A number of years back the previous owner converted the space, surprisingly, from an entrance into a retail space that has sat vacant for quite some time now.

Northpond is also in the process of selling a 1-acre vacant lot (yes, THAT lot) that is directly next door to the center to Local Ventures, a St. Louis-based developer. Local Ventures is planning to develop a 14-story, mixed-use building on the site that would include ground floor commercial space and 402 apartments (find out more about that project here).

Another change that the developer shared details on is the potential for a portion of the center at the corner of Hennepin Avenue and W 31st Street to be redeveloped in a mixed-use building. That space is where Kitchen Window and CB2 are currently located along with vacant retail space (formerly Famous Dave’s and Sushi Tango) and a surface parking lot. Preliminary plans for the site include ground floor retail space (which could be home to a grocery store), apartments on the upper floors and a new pedestrian way connecting Hennepin Avenue to the parking ramp located behind the center. While plans are in the early design phase, this part of the project could be complete as soon as late 2022.

While these are all of the details that have been shared at the moment, more details are anticipated to be shared later this fall. As always, you can be sure to find new details on the transformation of Seven Points Uptown right here on The Development Tracker.

Seven Points Uptown is located at 3001 Hennepin Avenue.
