BLACK-OWNED SPECIALTY COFFEE SHOP TO OPEN IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS

BLACK-OWNED SPECIALTY COFFEE SHOP TO OPEN IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS image

A new, black-owned specialty coffee shop is set to open next spring in the Camden neighborhood.

The Get Down Coffee Co. will be located within a planned expansion of Houston White Men's Room that will bring a new barbershop experience, retail space, coffee shop and café to the wildly popular and successful North Minneapolis business.

The new coffee shop will be a partnership between HWMR and Minneapolis-based Dogwood Coffee. The Get Down Coffee Co. has set a two-year goal to build its own roasting facility in North Minneapolis, until then the company will use Dogwood’s roasting and training facility. Dogwood will also serve as a mentor, sharing the company’s experience, knowledge, people, resources, relationships, facility and equipment with The Get Down.

The idea behind the new coffee shop is to build a sustainable business that brings not only business to the community, but also jobs and a great sense of community itself.

The new coffee shop will be built upon Houston White’s core belief of the power of human connection and the creation of cultural collision and will employ individuals from the North Minneapolis community.

The Get Down Coffee Co. is anticipated to open in late spring 2021 at 1500 N 44th Avenue.
