Former Walgreen's space on Superior Street to be filled

If you missed the DNT's article about this, here is a little version of our own! The former Walgreen's space in the Plaza Shopping Center on Superior Street soon will be filled. For those of you who are new to our blog, welcome, and don't fret... Walgreen's didn't close, it just moved. Their former space however had been rumored to be the newest home for many retailers, such as Trader Joe's, Anytime Fitness, CVS, a new restaurant, a few different auto shops, and more. But finally, after months of waiting, the truth has been told. Ace Hardware will soon call 13o1 East Superior Street home.

The new Ace Hardware will be under the Burggraf family name. They currently have three store locations, none of which are in Minnesota. Burggraf and his two brothers are quite excited to be opening a location in Duluth, let alone Minnesota, and have said that they have wanted to do this for many years now. They debated for a while about opening in the former Ace Hardware location downtown, but bypassed that option due to lack of parking. The 10,500 square foot space that they will be opening up in was constructed in 1991 and will go through a complete remodel, interior and out. Good news for the Plaza area and the entire East Duluth area! Look for the new Burggraf Ace Hardware to open in late October or Early November 2012.

Now some people seem to have a somewhat let down feeling when they hear this news. But look up friends! It's great news! Many were hoping for something a little more modern and new to the area/region. What I believe though is that this is great fit for the space. The area currently lacks a hardware store of any type and this really will fill that void. Not to mention it is a mixture of a local and national brand. It's good for both worlds. Plus, where else can you get a screen or window fixed? That's a service that's really fled all modern hardware stores. Not to worry, Burggraf Ace Hardware will have it!
