Construction begins on new MCCU Branch

Construction has officially begun on a new Members Cooperative Credit Union branch at 609 West Central Entrance in the Miller Hill Mall area. The new branch will replace the company's current location in the Firestone Tires building, a location that customers have often struggled with due to it's poor visibility and access. When complete, the new branch will feature full banking services along with drive through banking, something currently not offered at the Miller Hill branch.

Designed by DSGW of Duluth, the building sports a modern design that really will compliment the Residence Inn hotel next door. It also will help to bring the Stone Ridge shopping center into a more modernized look, hopefully kickstarting/influencing some updates for the center.

The site that MCCU picked to build their new branch on formerly housed a Midas Muffler location. That location closed late last year and had the potential to re-open if a new franchisee was found. When that didn't happen, the site went on the market and MCCU snatched it up.

Originally when the branch was looking to build a full service location in the Miller Hill Mall area, they had identified an outlot in the Shopko parking lot as a possible future branch site. That talk began years ago when plans for a branch designed very similar to the one in West Duluth were in discussion. However, those plans never came to fruition, MCCU redesigned their branding, and now we are going to see one of the first new branch prototypes. We think it's a great trade for the extra wait!

Construction should be finished in late fall when MCCU will close it's branch in the Firestone building and move operations to their newly constructed building.
