Insomnia Cookies | OPENING THIS SPRING | 1010 Woodland Avenue

Clear the way! Room has to be made!

The next step of movings has started to begin on the site where part of the Plaza Shopping Center currently sits and Duluth's first CVS soon will soon rise out of. I thought now would be a good time to go through what tenants have moved and what ones have closed as construction soon will begin at full force most likely in May. Below is a list of the tenants that use to be housed in the Plaza Shopping Center strip mall and their current location/state.

Super America: Not really in the Plaza Shopping Center, but they were however located directly next to the site. This Super America location closed and will not relocate.

Anytime Fitness: Anytime Fitness actually just moved to the former space housed by Stewarts Bikes and Sports (1502 East Superior Street). The new building they are in is twice the size (8,500 sqf) of their former location in the Plaza Shopping Center and features two levels. The new space also features the newest Anytime Fitness prototype design, with warmer colors, newer equipment, and more showers and changing space. The 1,000+ members that are part of the club no longer will feel cramped in the space and will barely, if ever, have to wait to use a piece of equipment. The cost for renovating the new location? $300,000, that's twice the cost of a typical location. Another surprising fact, did you know that the location at the Plaza Shopping Center was the second location to ever open? Now there are over 1,700 locations world-wide.

Duluth Running Co: Moved this past year to their new space at 1026 East Superior Street, conveniently two blocks away from their old location. Their new space features a more modern, open look, and is about two and half times larger (3,800 sqf) than their old location. The increased space allows them to carry new product and decrease their carbon footprint due to the "green" design of the building.

Bei Jing: One of Duluthian's favorite Chinese restaurants has yet to announce their decision on whether they will move or close. Be sure to check back for update information as we desperately hope they will move to a new space!

Jimmy John's Sandwiches: Will be moving in the next month to their new location across the street in the space that was formerly the other half of Great Harvest Bread Co. Their new location should open within the next month. Refer to our earlier post on their moving (http://cdinduluth.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/jimmy-johns-construction-going-strong/)

State Farm Insurance Agency: The exact plans for this office have yet to be announced.

Plaza Hair Styles: The exact plans for this location regarding whether they will reopen or not have not been announced. However, their location at the Plaza Shopping Center has indeed closed.

Plaza Consignment: The exact plans for this location regarding whether they will reopen or not have not been announced. However, their location at the Plaza Shopping Center has indeed closed.

Hallmark: This location has closed and as of right now there are no plans to reopen.

In addition the the Plaza Shopping Center Strip Center being torn down, there are also a few houses be razed on the site currently and I do believe also an apartment building. The new CVS location will look very similar to the picture below.
