Aldi in Superior plans November opening

If you've been eagerly awaiting for the opening of Aldi's first Twin Ports location, well, we have great news for you. November 12th is day that Aldi will celebrate their grand opening of their new Superior location at 4429 Tower Avenue.

The opening of the Superior store will mark a milestone for the company who has yet to enter the Northland. Aldi currently has over 10,000 locations worldwide including 39 locations within Minnesota.

If you're unfamiliar with Aldi and are unsure how it could be different from a typical grocery store we suggest you look no further than here. Seriously, click the link and it'll be worth your time as it includes all the information your heart could ever desire about the shopping experience at Aldi.

HIRING FAIR

SUPERIOR IS JUST THE START

While Aldi is close to opening their doors in Superior it doesn't mean that the company will check the Twin Ports off their list just yet. Currently the company is scouting for a Duluth location but has yet to find the right fit. Superior along with their future Duluth location most likely won't be where the company stops.

You can expect to see additional locations for Aldi in the Northland over the coming years. Most likely multiple locations will open in the Duluth area and logically a location would also open in the Cloquet area. And then there's the Iron Range and North Shore...

Aldi tends to locate their store locations within all sizes of communities and within Minnesota the company has proven that no city is too small for an Aldi.

WHAT'S THE BIGGER SIGNIFICANCE?

While we couldn't be more excited for Aldi to open their doors in the Twin Ports, there's a bigger underlying factor that is stirring some excitement within the Twin Ports. If you're aware of Aldi and their parent company, then you're aware that there isn't JUST Aldi.

Oh no, Aldi has a sibling and their name is Trader Joe's.

Trader Joe's currently is found only within the United States, with a good amount of those locations being in California. The company currently has 418 stores while their parent company Aldi Nord has 4,400+ store across the globe. Their sister company Aldi Sud currently has 5110 locations giving a grand total for the two sides of the company (which really in the end is just one big company) of 10,370 worldwide. That's a whole lot of Aldi locations.

SO WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

Well, something that has been on the wishlist for Duluthians for quite sometime is for a Trader Joe's location to open up here in the Twin Ports. Heck, there's even a Facebook page devoted to the topic (we promise we didn't start it). American's go crazy for Trader Joe's and the Northland is not immune to this craze.

The reason is due to the company's wide array of organic products and environmentally friendly products, many of which are sold under Trader Joe's own private label. The grocery stores tend to carry around 4,000 items and typically are between 8,000 and 12,000 square feet in size.

With Aldi opening in the Twin Ports it means the parent company (Aldi Nord) is aware of the Northland. It also means that a Trader Joe's could potentially not be far down the road (literally...no pun intended). After all, the older sibling always tests the waters before their little sibling enters.
