WORK ON CITY CENTER BEGINS TO WRAP UP

Construction is wrapping on the transformation of one of City Center’s prime corners located along Nicollet.

Work began last fall on the repositioning of the corner of 7th Avenue and Nicollet (the corner facing IDS Center’s Crystal Court). The $3 million project that will soon be complete replaced precast concrete panels with new metal work and added new lighting, windows and (soon) signage. One of the biggest additions to the corner is a second-floor covered patio space that will likely be used by a restaurant/bar.

Ryan Companies Real Estate Management team (REM) is the group that envisioned the project. The company took over the management of City Center last year and decided it was time for the center to receive an update beginning with one of the most focal parts of the building.

While the exterior updates are the most noticeable at the moment, updates are also planned for the interior.

The newly added second floor outdoor space | TDT

The newly renovated corner has created some prime real estate on both the first and skyway levels of the building. Ryan Companies REM team is looking to reconfigure some of that new prime real estate which could result in a few moves.

Construction recently began on the skyway level for a new location for Brooks Brothers. The company will move directly across the hall from their current location to a space that was previously occupied by Union73. Brooks Brothers move is expected to be the first of a few moves for tenants that currently occupy the skyway level of the corner of 7th and Nicollet.

At the moment it is unclear if Pacifier and Allen Edmonds will also relocate, however they likely will need to as their space abuts the newly created second floor patio. On the ground floor there is still a large 21,877 square foot retail space that has been vacant since Sports Authority closed a few years back. That space will likely also be reconfigured and could be filled very soon…

Last month it was announced that Chase Bank would be opening within City Center on the first floor at the corner of 7th and Nicollet. The new location will be the company’s first Downtown Minneapolis and certainly not their last within the city. While the exact location within the building was not disclosed, it seems likely that they will fill a portion of the newly renovated corner.
