An affordable apartment building planned for the Powderhorn Park was approved earlier this month.
Project for Pride in Living is planning to develop a four-story building that will be called βBoom Lake Flatsβ that will be home to 42 affordable apartments once complete. The project will be constructed on what today is a vacant site located at 3020 16th Avenue S.
Designed by MSR Design, the building will feature studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom layouts. Residents of the building will have access to a ground floor community room, wellness room and bike storage. On the North side of the project there will also be an outdoor play area, activity lawn, seating area and a dog park. The exterior of the new building will be clad in a mix of brick and metal panels.
19 parking spaces will be located on a surface parking lot at the rear of the building. The parking lot will be shared by The Family Partnership, an organization that occupies a building next door to the site.
The primary tenants for the building will be individuals living with HIV/AIDs who are formerly homeless or struggling to find stable housing. Residents of the building will have access to supportive services provided by Clare Housing which will have office space on the ground floor of the building.
Plans for 3020 16th South were approved by the Minneapolis Planning Commission earlier this month. Construction on the project is anticipated to begin this fall.
