The new building, which was approved by the Minneapolis Planning Commission earlier this week, will stand two-stories tall once complete. The 9,152 square foot building will include 7,748 square feet for a community center and 1,052 square foot for a coffee shop.
The community center will include a Veteranβs Resource Center, clothing donation sorting and storage space, offices, an exercise room and support spaces for the operations of the organization. The coffee shop will be open to the public and will feature an outdoor patio along 43rd Street S.
Three vehicle parking spaces will be included as a part of the project 34 bicycle parking spaces will also be included.
An existing one-story build that houses an auto shop will be demolished in order to make way for the new building. Designed by DJR Architecture, the new building will be clad in brick, fiber cement, and wood siding. Plans for the project can be viewed here.
Construction on 5400 43rd Avenue S is anticipated to begin this fall.
