Another housing option will soon rise near the University of Minnesota. This time in an area where the housing boom as yet to grasp.
Dubbed the Erie Street Apartments, the building would stand four stories tall and include 48 apartment units. Units in the building would largely be 1 bedroom units with the 2 corners of each floor featuring 2 bedroom units.
The ground floor will hold a community room, an outdoor patio, and storage space for 56 bikes inside and 8 more spaces outside. A surface parking lot at the back of the site would hold 17 parking spaces for residents within the building.

Designed by DJR Architecture the exterior sports a modern design with with wood textures along with tones of whites, greys, and yellow spread throughout. Fiber cement board and siding along with aluminum siding will all be used on the facade.
The building would be constructed on five abutting parcels of land that currently have homes on them and includes 625, 629, 631, 635 and 637 Erie Street with all parcels lying on the Eastern side of the street.
Developers of the project are looking to attract students who are in search for an apartment near campus and those students who are looking for their first apartment on their own.
This project will go before the City of Minneapolis' Planning Commission on January 12th. If approved construction could begin as soon as Spring with a completion in Spring 2018.
