Aldi will be setting up shop in Duluth. Finally.
Aldi officials confirmed last week that the company is in the final negotiations to build a free standing 19,000 square foot location in the Village Mall in Duluth Heights on a site that currently is surface parking for the mall.
If you're unfamiliar with Aldi, read our post here to learn just about everything you could want to know about the German based grocer that does things a little differently than similar businesses within the United States.

The new location in Duluth will be similar in design to the company's location that opened on Tower Avenue in Superior last fall. 1 story in design, the Duluth location will be around 19,000 square feet with 12,000 square feet of selling space, making it slightly larger than the Superior location.
Aldi would like to begin construction this fall with an opening planned for Summer 2017. While the company can confirm no additional stores are planned for Superior, they say a second Duluth location could be in store (literally) for the future.
This news comes on the heels of the announcement that PetSmart will open a 25,000 square foot location in the last remaining space at the Village Mall. The center will also receive facade upgrades to make all storefronts match along with an entirely new parking lot. You can read more about this announcement here.
