A new urban winery opening next spring in the North Loop finally has a name.

AxeBridge Wine Company will open within the Internet Exchange Building located at 411 N Washington Avenue. Currently the building is undergoing an extensive renovation and restoration that’ll reposition it as not only as a winery, but also retail/restaurant and office space.

Now, if you remember our article from earlier in the year when we first shared the news of the un-named winery at the time, Ashley and Aaron Schram, the owners of Schram Vineyards Winery and & Brewery in Waconia, are the individuals behind the new North Loop winery. The name for their new winery comes from a combination of their two children’s names, Axel and Bridget.

The Schram’s hope to bridge the gap between agriculture and the city. It’s not often that you find a winery in the heart of the city and they’re ready to change that.

Designed by Minneapolis-based Shea Design, AxeBridge Wine Company opens next year will cover 10,000 square feet of space and will truly feel like a vineyard indoors. Within that space there will be 3,000 square feet for production along with a tasting bar, private tasting rooms, a VIP-cub room and a massive outdoor patio. In addition to a number of different wines being served, there will also be a food menu that was created to complement the wines served.

You might be saying to yourself that there are already wine bars in Minneapolis, so what makes this one different? AxeBridge won’t be just another wine bar, it’ll be a true winery and that’s because they’ll actually produce wine on site. When visiting you’ll be able to not only see the wine being made, but you’ll also be able to go on tastings, tours and more.

The Schram’s will borrow some unique techniques from their winery in Waconia. Those techniques including a barrel program for reds along with working with local New Itasca grapes to create different recipes for their rosé and blushes.

Wine from Minnesota grapes? We’re for sure interested in that. We’ll see you at AxeBridge.

AxeBridge Wine Company will open in spring 2020 at 411 N Washington Avenue.
