Khâluna to open in former Harriet's Inn space

Chef Ann Ahmed will open a new restaurant in South Minneapolis in a space that was formerly home to Harriet’s Inn.

Khâluna will open later this year at the corner of 40th and Lyndale in the East Harriet neighborhood. The name for the restaurant comes from the Buddhist teaching which means “compassion” and the name also means “please” in Lao.

The new restaurant will be a place to dine, shop and love. Khâluna will offer a menu that is filled with Southeast Asian inspired dishes such as sakoo, shrimp rolls, and pineapple coconut noodles along with an extensive list of cocktails (lots of non-alcoholic beverages too). In addition to offering food and drinks, Khâluna will also sell some of Chef Ann’s favorite items in a boutique shop.

A complete renovation of the 6,500 square foot building is currently underway. The new restaurant, which was designed by Shea Inc, will include ample indoor dining space, a large patio, a boutique shop along with a kitchen studio that will be able to host events and classes.

Khâluna won't be the first restaurant endeavor for Chef Ann as she currently operates two other restaurants in the Twin Cities. Her first, Lemon Grass Thai, is located in Brooklyn Park while her second, Lat14 Asian Eatery, opened a few years ago in Golden Valley.

Khâluna is anticipated to open in mid to late 2021 at 4000 Lyndale Avenue S.
